Offer: Custom Spice Blend

Item Name & Description: A jar of a custom spice blend, tailored to the winner's request.

I will fill one standard size (4" by 1 3/4") spice jar with a custom spice blend for you. I have been cooking Pakistani food for 20 years and many of my LJ friends can attest to my talent at mixing spices. You, the winner, will tell me your heat tolerance, what sorts of things you like to cook (ie, do you eat meat? preference for lamb or chicken? do you want something to spice up winter greens?), maybe some of your favorite Indian restaurant dishes, and any allergies or restrictions you have. I will then mix a masala for you and send you a list of at least three suggested uses for it.

Starting Bid:: $5

Notes:

A note on allergies: I will do my best to make an allergy-safe mix, but I do buy my spices from a small independent seller (Christina's in Inman Sq, for Cambridge locals) and there may be some cross contamination on their part. I also do not have an allergy safe kitchen, so if you'd prefer I buy powdered spices, instead of toasting and grinding whole spices here in my kitchen, please let me know.

Also, while my experience is mostly with spices commonly used in India and Pakistan, I am happy to attempt to mix spices/herbs from other parts of the world. I just can't guarantee how well they will work in practice!

Offer: Hand spun yarn

Edited to add: To sweeten the deal, I will throw in a random set of stitch markers from my stash of handmade stitchmarkers for any lot that goes above $25. I've also added in more weight information for each lot.

Item Name & Description:
Four lots of hand spun yarn.

Lot 1: Goblin Market

Three skeins, totaling four ounces, of handspun targhee wool from combed top. Targhee is a relatively new breed of sheep, and targhee wool is often described as bouncy, sproingy, and squooshy. Yes these are technical terms :) This yarn won't make cables "pop" and probably won't show up lace patterns well, but the yarn itself has plenty of texture and personality on its own.The colorway is from Spirit-Trail fibers and is composed of light browns, deep oranges, and the occasional spot of surprisingly bright red.

Approx 7-10 wpi. Roughly a worsted to bulky.

Starting Bid:: $10

Lot 2: The Forest Has Eyes

Three skeins, totaling four ounces, of handspun camels wool and silk from combed top. This yarn is incredibly softly spun, so I do not recommend it for anything hard-wearing like socks or gloves. It's great for things that go against sensitive skin, like scarves or wristwarmers. The colorway is from Spirit-Trail fibers and is semi-solid medium to dark green.

Approx 8 wpi. Heavy worsted to bulky.

Starting Bid:: $10

Lot 3: The Skies are Full of Snow

Two skeins, totaling four ounces, of handspun merino wool and silk spun from combed top. This is both thinner and more tightly spun than the previous two lots, and I would recommend it for gloves or lace shawls. I'm not sure who dyed the fiber, but the colors are silver grey with blue undertones.

Approx. 14 wpi. Fingering to sport weight.

Starting Bid:: $10

Lot 4: Grab bag

Used to making small projects? New to handspun yarn and want to experiment? This lot is for you. At least four skeinlets, weighing between .5oz and 1oz each, in at least three colorways. You'll get what you see in the photo below plus samples of any other novelty yarns that come off my wheel or spindles between now and March 6. The skeinlets pictured below are sheeps wool (blue and purple) and a blend of sheepswool, alpaca, mohair and bamboo-derived rayon (red and white candycane stripe)

Starting Bid:: $5

Notes: I am willing to ship anywhere in the world. My home is animal free and smoke free, but I do wear perfume oils. None of the yarn in this auction has a noticeable smell, but I can't guarantee that they are completely scent free for those with sensitivities. I also store all my yarn and fiber together, so there may be stray mohair, wool, or other fibers mixed in with your yarn.
