Three Short Story Critiques by Claire Light

Posted on behalf of Claire Light; updated 3/1/11 with more detail.

Item Name & Description: three critiques of a short story (up to 10,000 words), to the top three bidders. For each winner I'll write an in-depth, detailed critique, as well as returning your manuscript to you marked up with "track changes." I'll also "meet" with you on the phone or (my preference) skype for an hour to answer questions.

Starting Bid: $25 (ordinarily I'd charge a minimum of $50: 2 hrs x $25/hour)

Notes: I received an MFA in fiction writing from San Francisco State University in 2005. I've published short stories in McSweeney's and Encyclopedia, among others, and I published a collection of my stories with Aqueduct Press in 2009. I've taught creative writing to teens, college students, and adults since 2003, and currently run a teen after school creative writing program.

Sony Pocket Reader (PRS-300)

Item Name & Description: Sony Pocket Reader (PRS-300) and accessories, used but in excellent working condition.

This e-book reader has an E Ink screen that is clearly readable in bright sunlight. It reads ePub and PDF files, and is about the size of a paperback book. You can find out more at Sony's website.

I am also including two cases (the red one has an optional booklight but is a little scuffed from use; the black one is very straightforward and lightweight) and relevant cables. Pictures are behind the cut.

Starting Bid: $15.

Notes: Free shipping in the U.S. via Priority mail. Method of shipping internationally to be determined based on cost.

Offer: One-of-a-kind altered fashion doll

Item Name & Description: One-of-a-kind altered fashion doll incorporating pages from a vintage book.

I'll use a basic fashion doll (most likely a Barbie, though I have a few Bratz on hand as well) to create a one-of-a-kind art piece for you, incorporating pages from a vintage book - probably a copy of Podkayne of Mars (is it subversion? Is it homage? Is it an uneasy mixture of the two? You decide!), though I have a few other titles available if the winner prefers - and appropriate accessories. The winning bidder will have options to choose from in the base doll that include gender, skin tone, hairstyle, and eye color, and I'll put my creativity to work from there.

Click the cut to see a picture of a doll in the same general style as what I'm offering, dressed in pages from a poetry anthology:

Other examples of the kind of work I do can be found at my Etsy shop.

Starting Bid: $10

Notes: The doll will be in the mail within two-three weeks of the winning bidder choosing the preferred base doll, etc. I'll ship at my expense to bidders in the USA; those in other countries should not bid unless they are willing to help cover some shipping costs (realistically, I can spend no more than about $10 on shipping).
