new memberships, upcoming assistance to Eastercons

I’m pleased to announce new options for fans of color/non-white fans interested in attending SFF cons.

First, new con memberships that are available first-come first-serve:

  • LepreCon 42, June 23-26, 2016, Phoenix, AZ, USA. LepreCon is Arizona’s Annual Sci-Fi & Fantasy Convention with an art emphasis. Its 2016 theme is “Life, the Universe & Everything” and its currently-announced guests of honor are Jennie Breeden and Ben Woerner.

    LepreCon has donated two memberships to Con or Bust.

  • CrossingsCon, June 24-26, 2016, Newark, NJ, USA. CrossingsCon is this Universe’s first ever Young Wizards convention; its special guests are Mark Oshiro and Seanan McGuire.

    CrossingsCon has donated two memberships to Con or Bust.

Second, new assistance that can be requested from February 15-25, 2016:

  • Mancunicon, 25-28 March 2016, Manchester, England, UK. Mancunicon is the 2016 Eastercon, and its Guests are Aliette de Bodard, Dave Clements, Ian McDonald and Sarah Pinborough.

    Eightsquaredcon (a past Eastercon) has donated funds specifically toward attendance at future Eastercons, including Mancunicon. (Mancunicon also donated three memberships to Con or Bust, all of which have been claimed.)

  • Salt City Steamfest, August 12-14, 2016, West Valley City, UT, USA. Salt City Steamfest is a steampunk convention in its fifth year. The theme for 2016 is The Festival of Friendship.

    Salt City Steamfest has donated two memberships (Nomad Passports) to Con or Bust.

Finally, here are the rest of the cons for which memberships are currently available, first-come first-serve:

  • Arisia, January 15-18, 2016, Boston, MA, USA. Arisia is New England’s largest and most diverse science fiction and fantasy convention. Its Author Guest of Honor is John Scalzi; its Artist Guest of Honor is Johnna Y. Klukas; and its Fan Guest of Honor is Pablo Miguel Alberto Vazquez III.

    Arisia has donated six memberships and two hotel rooms to Con or Bust, of which three memberships remain available.

  • Farpoint 23, February 12-14, 2016, Timonium, MD, USA. Farpoint is an annual gathering for fans of all genres of imaginative fiction – Science Fiction, Fantasy, Horror, SuperHeroes – in all the media formats in which they might appear. Its guests for 2016 include David Gerrold and Sean Maher.

    Farpoint has donated two memberships to Con or Bust, which must be claimed by January 31, 2016. One membership remains available.

  • FOGcon 6, March 11-13, 2016, Walnut Creek, CA, USA. Friends of the Genre (FOGcon) is a literary-themed San Francisco Bay Area SF/F con in the tradition of Wiscon. Its 2016 theme is Transformations, and its Honored Guests are Jo Walton, Ted Chiang, Donna Haraway, and Octavia Butler (posthumous).

    FOGcon has donated two memberships to Con or Bust, and an individual has donated a third; two memberships remain available.

  • AnomalyCon, March 25-27, 2016, Denver, CO, USA. AnomalyCon is a steampunk and alternate history convention. Its featured confirmed special guests (so far!) are Shelley Adina, Elizabeth Bear, Delilah S. Dawson, Frenchy and the Punk, Jaymee Goh, Emmy Jackson, David Malki !, Lisa Mantchev, The Cog Is Dead, Chuck Wendig, and Brenna Yovanoff.

    AnomalyCon has donated twenty (20) passes to Con or Bust, to be claimed by March 1, 2016. (Note that AnomalyCon has a policy of legal names on badges.)

  • JordanCon, April 22-24, 2016, Atlanta, GA, USA. JordanCon is a fantasy literature convention founded in honor of the late author, Robert Jordan; in 2016 it will also be hosting DeepSouthCon 54, which is the Southeast’s premiere regional convention for fans of genre literature. Its Guests of Honor are Catherine Asaro and John Picacio.

    JordanCon has donated two memberships to Con or Bust, which must be claimed by March 27, 2016.

  • Satellite 5, 28th – 29th May 2016, Glasgow, Scotland, UK. Satellite focusses on the interface between science fact and science fiction; Satellite 5 heads back into orbit to look at science and SF relating to space stations, orbiting habitats, floating cities etc. The Guest of Honor is Jaine Fenn.

    Satellite has donated one membership to Con or Bust.

  • ConQuesT, May 27-29, 2016, Kansas City, MO, USA. ConQuesT is an annual science fiction convention held in the Kansas City, Missouri area that is sponsored by the long-running (since 1971) Kansas City Science Fiction and Fantasy Society (KaCSFFS, pronounced kax-fuss). The convention is held to celebrate science fiction, fantasy, and horror “in all its various forms”, but with a nod toward the literary side of these related genres. The Guests of Honor are Nnedi Okorafor, Julie Dillon, Lindsay Ellis, Diane Lacey, and Seanan McGuire.

    ConQuesT has donated four memberships to Con or Bust, which must be claimed by March 30th, 2016.

  • Au Contraire 2016, 3-5 June, 2016, Wellington, New Zealand. Au Contraire is the 37th National Science Fiction & Fantasy Convention for New Zealand (NatCon for short). Its Guests include Stephanie Paul (Iron Sky), Martin Wallace (Treefrog Games), and A.J. Fitzwater.

    Au Contraire has donated one membership to Con or Bust.
