in the San Francisco Bay Area, in Redwood Creek, from my houseboat. I have two kayaks and can give you a quick lesson in very quiet water. Kayak out into the 2 mile long tidal salt water creek for some peaceful birdwatching.
The beginners' kayak is an Old Town Vapor 10, is very steady (not tippy) and its cockpit dimensions are 19.5" x 48" / 49.5 x 121.9 cm, enough to move your legs around and likely even sit cross-legged. It is also possible to fit a small child in front of you. Children are welcome and I have a range of life jackets for tiny kids up to XXL adults. Birds likely at this time of year: Brown pelicans, common terns, cormorants, western grebes, scaups, canada goose, ducks. Sometimes there are seals.
