This worked well when Kate did it last year, so...

Item Name & Description: Three John M. Ford books: The Dragon Waiting, The Princes of the Air, and Growing Up Weightless, to be bid on separately. These books will almost certainly not be reprinted in the near future, and possibly never until copyright runs out on them.

First we have The Dragon Waiting, winner of the World Fantasy Award. If you haven't read this book, go read rydra_wong's recent post to see why you need to. Further description on my part would be superfluous. This is the Avon mass-market paperback, with cover 1.1 from coffeeandink's comment in the aforementioned thread. It has a few bumps to the edges, but has no spine cracks or interior damage.

Next we have The Princes of the Air. This was Ford's second novel (it came out in 1982, a year before TDW). It is not as good as TDW. However, I think hardly any books are as good as TDW. In my opinion this is a very good book. It's set in an interstellar monarchy some hundreds of years from now, and is about things such as simulations, street con games, and diplomacy (or, rather, diplomatic services). This copy is the first edition, a mass-market paperback under the Timescape imprint, with a Wayne Barlowe cover which would be better if it weren't whitewashed. It has a little cover wear, but the interior is fine, and while there is a crease along the spine, it does not affect the structural integrity of the book. (Note there has never been a hardcover printing of this.)

Finally we have Growing Up Weightless. This is a later (1993) work of fairly hard science fiction about teenagers growing up in a Moon colony. rachelmanija says "It's extremely atmosperic, packed with bright details, and, despite a total lack of melodrama, quietly heartbreaking." This copy is from the original trade paperback edition (there has never been a hardcover except from Easton Press). It has some cover wear, but no real damage (and no spine cracks), and the interior is fine except for creases on the first two pages.

Starting Bid: $5 for each book

Notes: Free shipping in the US (possibly via Media Mail). I will ship anywhere else, but reserve the right to get reimbursed for the extra postage (feel free to ask if you want to know how much it would be).

Bidding starts Monday, February 21, 2011, at 12:01 a.m. EST (GMT -5) and ends Sunday, March 6, 2011, at 11:59 p.m. EST.

42 (it's cool for reasons that have nothing to do with HHGTG)

You've gone over 14 (it's almost as cool as 42) so I'll have to bid $28.

As numbers go, 28 is practically perfect.

Ah hell, let's make it $42.

It will take me to the next prime number (for all my bids together)
