Starting Bid: $30
Notes: The painting is digitally produced, but Shweta will be hand-assembling the following into a final product:
- printout of the picture + inner ornate borders
- printouts of the poem as three different stanzas-in-boxes
- outer paper, with hand-done ornate border for the rest to be assembled on.
The copy of Steam-Powered will be shipped by JoSelle Vanderhooft.
Here's a low-res version of the image, presently without poem or borders:
You can see a Table of Contents for the book here, read N. K. Jemisin's story here, or listen to my story here, to get a taste of what's between the covers.
E-mail: For image, shweta at shwetanarayan dot org; for book, upstart dot crow at gmail dot com.
EDITED TO ADD! If the bidding reaches $150, Shweta will post the (freakin' AWESOME) poem in English, complete with pedantic Syrian scholar footnotes! If it doesn't reach $150, you'll only get the footnotes. :p
FURTHER... If you're very VERY keen and the bidding reaches $200, I will write my [presently unnamed] Syrian Ruler's poem in response to Jahanara's, and post it publically for free. I will write it out by hand, seal it with wax, and mail it to the auction winner as well.
ETA 2: Bidding's hit $150! Here, as promised, is the English version of Shweta's imaginary Urdu poem, complete with footnotes!
Bidding is now open and ends Sunday, March 6, 2011, at 11:59 p.m. EST (GMT -5).
